Preparing for stage 1: Euroscolos

http://www.waterblog.suez-environnement.com/en/wp-content/uploads/image%20article.jpgThis week we are preparing for the stage 1 of the competition, the quiz about the EU. Our teacher has shown us the two Euroscolos options and we have watched some videos in class and discussed. We started with the 8 Millennium Development Goals: we celebrate the Day of the Woman at school for a whole Day and we can match concepts. Also with the Human Rights Day in the first term.

In the video about the chronology of the EU after the Second World War until nowadays we have discussed about the images we have seen. Our teacher explained about what he remembered about the Fall of the Berlin Wall  in 1989 or the Yugoslavia war (he was younger than us at that time!) and then we put in common events we knew about our countries, for example Romania, when the dictatorship ended or when the country entered the EU. Then we saw things like the euro, and commented the advantages of being in the EU.

We also watched videos about the EU institutions, where they are, their use, elections... we also had a poster in class explaining it and a text to work on it. Then, we saw the video A-Z robot about the waste of food.... and discussed about it. There are many hungry children in the word and we waste a lot of food.

The video about poverty in the EU was shocking too. We liked the clear drawings. Many families in Spain suffer the crisis and in our school and it's a bit depressing but we need to endure and look forward.

For the rest of information we have decided to distribute the sections, read and watch the videos and put it in common next day.

At the end we played the game of the maps. We are studying geography this year, it is good to revise!

For English we have to write a composition of our bedrooms and we played the other game and practiced vocabulary. We are now aware of many things that are not necessary.
